Navigational Phase

Collecting the jigsaw pieces

Where do we start?

Our understanding of a young person’s needs is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. First, we have to collect together the pieces that we already have. Here are the steps:

① Initial Chat

An introductory phone call so you can tell us what is going on.
15-30 mins

② School Visit

Then we will pop into the school for:
o  A classroom observation
o  Conversation with teacher(s)
Young people spend so much of their time at school. It is a natural environment where we can see your child “in action”.
~2 hours

③ Records Review

This helps us to understand the bigger picture for your child.
o  Developmental history
o  Academic/behavioural logs
We will ask a parent or other member of the whānau to fill out the developmental history questionnaire, and we will gather relevant records from the school.
~1.5 hours

④ Navigational Discussion

Using the information we’ve collected so far, we will meet for an hour to talk about next steps, and some strategies to trial.

By the end of this phase, we will have worked as a team to put the "puzzle" together. This might be enough to be going on with for a while.

We may find we have missing pieces which need Further Assessment.
60 mins

All up, this phase takes approximately 5 hours of psychologist time.

We can offer this phase for:

5×$210 =$1,050
$850 (GST inc.)
